John Cassavetes is the quintessential "actor's director". The daring and emotionally raw films of this icon of American indie cinema are revisited in Focus on John Cassavetes, on at Australian Centre for the Moving Image from May 15-25.

The director's films include Too Late Blues, starring Bobby Darin as a struggling jazz musician. Faces, a classic unmasking of 1960s America. Husbands, starring Peter Falk and Cassavetes himself. Gena Rowlands as a gangster's girlfriend in Gloria. And love and family at their messiest in A Woman Under the Influence. There's also the documentary A Constant Forge - The Life and Art of John Cassavetes.
